Oppose Police Cuts
Public safety is my top priority for Waddington West, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that the residents of Waddington West feel safe both in their homes and outside as well.
I oppose all cuts to the police, and if elected I will demand that the local authorities address this with the government. I will also raise this issue with the MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham. I will demand that these cruel Tory cuts be reversed so that policing levels are addressed and safety brought back to our streets.
This current Conservative government has cut police forces to the bone, and Lincolnshire has not been immune from the savage cuts inflicted on our hardworking police. The Tories are cutting funding and wiping police officers off the streets. Together, we must take action – before it’s too late.
According to a recent Freedom of Information request made to Lincolnshire Police, 999 calls made in the county increased by almost 10% between 2014 and 2017, and the response time of the police to calls the force classified as high priority increased from 31 minutes 30 seconds in 2014 to 40 minutes 27 seconds in 2017. Lincolnshire Police is facing incredibly tough times thanks to the Tories.
Under the Tories, 21,000 police officers have been axed and recorded crime is rising at the fastest rate in a decade.
Recent stats show that the Tories have cut 89 police officers and 36 police community support officers from Lincolnshire. Public disorder is up 57%, weapons possession is up 45%, and violence is up 44%.
The Tories have broken their promise to protect the police front line, taking thousands of bobbies off the beat and leaving communities exposed.
By cutting vital public services, the Tories have created the conditions in which crime can thrive, leaving people across North Kesteven more vulnerable to violence and harm.
I oppose these cuts. They’re unnecessary and they have made people in some cases afraid to leave their homes. Public safety cannot be done on the cheap.
